My Favourite Hideout : Mainland Tropical Fish Farm (Pasir Ris)

After roaming around at the recent Ranchu fish show, I've decided to blog for the venue of the contest.

The Mainland Tropical Fish Farm at Pasir Ris is one of the places where both my hubby & myself would chillout at when we require a nice quiet place to unwind.

As my hubby is a great lover of fishes, we love hanging around to have a good view of all the fishes & other animals (chickens, roosters, etc) residing at the fish farm.

Viewing is open to the public for free so do enjoy the fresh air & "kampong" life out there at Mainland Tropical Farm before they wind down the place in about 5 years time.

The government had decided to utilise the land at Pasir Ris Farmway for other purposes. It's pretty unfortunate that we had to see the fish farm go when the time comes.

As such, the photographs uploaded here in this thread would become reminiscent of the past in the near future.

This is a photograph of the fish farm from the exterior.

All the photographs in this thread featuring the fish farm & their inhabitants are not uploaded in any particular sequence and would be done so at random.

We hope that viewers would enjoy looking at what interest us & made us laugh at times when we look @ the animals...

When I saw these fishes caught in the net, it made me feel sad. I sincerely hope that their new owners would provide them a conducive environment so that they could thrive well.

These are definitely Koi Fishes.

My hubby was trying to take photographs of the roosters when this chap came eye to eye with us when we were busy shooting photographs ...

So we've decided to jazz it up by including captions in these photographs:

Shrubs
We spotted these fruits & flowers growing out of a shrub that looked more like a type of short palm tree.

Although we're not certain if it's a common sight to see such a breed of shrub flowering, we had decided to upload a couple of photographs of it since we're nature lovers.

All Singapore Ranchu Show (Asrs) 2011

Hi folks,

We made a special trip down to the Mainland Tropical Fish Farm on Saturday 19th November 2011 @ Pasir Ris with the intention to take a look @ the Ranchus (a particular breed of goldfish) at the All Singapore Ranchu Show (ASRS) 2011.

Poster of the ASRS held on 19th November 2011 :

Venue of the ASRS:

Upon arrival at the venue, the contestants (i.e. ranchu) were being placed into huge individual white enameled basins, under an extended shade of blue canvas tents.

The public such as us, were being barred from entering these premises while judging was still on-going. We were being told that the viewing would only be open to public after the judging is over, which was estimated to be after 1 PM.

However, our stomachs were growling hopelessly by 11.35 AM becox we haven't even eaten our breakfast yet. As such, we have only managed to take a few photographs of the competition only. *SIGH*

And we couldn't make a detour back in the afternoon as we've got another appointment after lunch.

So here comes the photographs of 2 of the contestants which were being placed near enough for us to take a photograph of each of them.

The Story Of My "tree" Musketeers - Morning Dew on plants

Of late, I noticed that there were dew drops on a newly grown Ginger plant. And this phenomenon would take place in the early hours of the morning.

I couldn't help but relate that to kung fu or chinese fairy tale novels. The heros or heroines would embark on a tough journey of collecting morning dew for making some formidable medication to boost their martial arts; or for the romantics, to treat their loved ones or bring them back to life. :P

The Story Of My "tree" Musketeers - A beautiful array of budding plants

These photographs were taken on 2nd November 2011 in the late afternoon when there is minimal sunlight:

A generous spray of 4 flower buds being pushed out of the red "scales" of the corn-like flower heads...

The photograph above features a generous spray of flower buds in bloom. However, I did notice that the flower buds wouldn't last if there is an over-watering of plants or when the soil is extremely wet every day.

As such, I would gauge the amount of water to be used to water the plants based on the texture of the soil. If the soil looks very dry, I would pour in a generous amount of water. Should the soil texture come across as damp, say, after it gets its supply of rain water, I might jux use half the usual amount of water for watering the plants.
This has been the flower food that I had been using for these ginger plants:

It's 10 drops to 1 litre of water. However, I would usually double the quantity of fertiliser.

My hubby had applied the fertiliser to my brother inlaw's pomegranate plant & what surprised us was the plant started bearing fruits after being infertile for almost 5 years.

There's another type of organic fertiliser which does wonder to all my plants but I had difficulties using it recently when the roots of my Ginger plants had been making its way to the soil surface of my pot. I reckon that I wouldn't be able to start using this grayish-coloured pellet form of organic fertiliser until I repot my plants.
